FORT WORTH (AP) – Thousands of homes and businesses have lost electricity as North Texas thunderstorms brought some soggy relief from wildfires and drought.
Dallas-based Oncor reported more than 7,900 homes and businesses were without power Monday, mainly in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, following overnight storms. Scattered outages were reported in East Texas.
A severe drought stemming from La Nina last fall has led to bone-dry conditions in most of Texas. More than 1 million acres have burned since the first full week of April.
Wildfires last week destroyed at least 160 homes and two churches in the Possum Kingdom Lake recreational area, about 70 miles west of Fort Worth.
Experts with the National Climatic Data Center and the National Weather Service planned a conference call Monday to discuss the drought and agriculture.
